Polish Bus Operator Decoder — FlixBus vs RegioJet vs PolskiBus

Three operators sell tickets for the same corridor and the buses even look the same. They are not the same. FlixBus dominates frequency and price. RegioJet bets on the seat and on-time %. PolskiBus (now Sindbad / cooperating partners) is the legacy operator with quirks that bite the unprepared. Pick by your priority, not the cheapest fare card.

How to read the result

Same corridor, three operators. Here is how they differ on the dimensions that actually matter:

FlixBus

Largest operator in Poland by frequency. ~12-20 daily departures per corridor. Standard seat pitch ~74 cm (vs RegioJet ~78 cm). USB-A port at most seats. Free cancellation up to 15 min before departure. Base fare from 39 zł on Kraków–Gdańsk if booked 14+ days ahead, peaks at ~99 zł same-day. On-time %: ~88% (Polish road conditions). Station: Warszawa Zachodnia (West) for WAW–KRK/WRO; Kraków MDA bus station for arrivals into Kraków.

RegioJet

Czech operator (yellow trains, yellow coaches). 2-6 daily departures per corridor. Higher seat pitch (~78 cm), free hot drink + bottled water, USB + 230V outlet at every seat. Free cancellation up to 15 min before. Base fare from 59 zł. On-time %: ~92% (newer fleet, fewer stops). Station: Warszawa Zachodnia (West) bus terminal via inbound or outbound platform. Kraków: also MDA bus station.

PolskiBus / Sindbad / cooperating

The original Polish long-distance brand. PolskiBus was bought out; current Sindbad-branded services run 1-3 daily departures per corridor, mostly older Setra / Van Hool stock. Seat pitch ~72 cm. USB only on newer coaches. Strict 24-hour cancellation window (vs 15 min for the others). Base fare from 49 zł, but rarely beats FlixBus on price.

Warsaw Chopin bus terminal

Don't confuse Warsaw Chopin Airport with the Warszawa Zachodnia (West) bus terminal. Most long-distance buses depart from Zachodnia (Warszawa Zachodnia, ul. Tunelowa), not from the airport. Chopin Airport is connected by SKM train. Allow 30 min from Centrum to Zachodnia.

Kraków MDA bus station

Małopolski Dworzec Autobusowy (MDA) is next to Galeria Krakowska, 8 minutes walk from Kraków Główny train station. Has a left-luggage office (5 zł/bag/day), ticket counters for walk-ups, and a small food court. Most FlixBus, RegioJet, and Sindbad arrivals use this terminal.

Is RegioJet worth the extra ~20 zł?

If you're 1.85m+ and care about seat pitch + USB + a guaranteed seat assignment, yes. The free hot drink + water is a small win. The 4% better on-time % matters in winter when the A2 motorway has snow closures.

Can I show up same-day and buy a ticket?

Yes on most corridors — FlixBus and RegioJet hold 2-4 walk-up seats per departure. Sindbad is more variable. Walk-up fare is the same as the day-before-online fare, not the promotional fare. Weekend evenings (Fri 17:00-19:00, Sun 18:00-21:00) sell out 2-3 days ahead.

Where do I catch the bus at Zachodnia?

Warszawa Zachodnia bus terminal is at the western end of the train station complex, on Tunelowa street. Enter through the south side and look for platform 2-13. Tickets and platform number appear 30 min before departure on the electronic boards. Most FlixBus / RegioJet use platforms 4-7.

What if my bus is delayed and I miss my train?

FlixBus and RegioJet do not refund missed onward transport. The free cancellation window is up to 15 minutes before departure, not after. Buy the train ticket separately or accept the risk. Train stations are walking distance from each bus terminal in Kraków, Gdańsk, and Wrocław.
