Fly into
WAW — Chopin
Chopin is the default for most Warsaw city-centre stays. Skip Modlin unless you're flying Ryanair/Wizz Air on a Schengen route.
Landing at 22:00 — last Chopin city train (SKM) leaves 23:08.
Last useful train
23:08 SKM to Centrum
Taxi/Uber if missed
~ 80-130 zł flat-quote
Prices are 2026 reference values. Modlin Bus, SKM, and Chopin taxi queues fluctuate by hour.
How to read the result
The widget weighs airline, origin, district, hour, group size, and bags. The five scenarios below show how the result changes.
Centrum / Old Town → Chopin wins
Chopin is ~9 km from Centrum, ~25-50 zł in a Warsaw Uber or 8 zł on the SKM suburban rail (Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina station, ticket via SkyCash or Bilety Kolejowe). Most flag carriers (LOT, Lufthansa, KLM) only serve WAW.
Modlin routes → Ryanair / Wizz only
If you're coming from a budget airline, you almost certainly land at Modlin. From there: 39 zł Modlin Bus to Warszawa Dworzec Zachodni (West rail station, ~50 min) or 80-130 zł flat-quote taxi. Modlin closes around 23:30 — last Modlin Bus leaves after the last Wizz arrival.
Late night = WMI ban
Modlin's terminal building closes at ~23:30. Wizz Air schedules its last departure from WMI at ~22:30 and last arrival at ~23:00. If your flight is delayed past that, your options shrink to a 200+ zł taxi. Fly into WAW if you're arriving after 22:00.
Wilanów / south = WAW
Southern districts (Wilanów, Ursynów, part of Mokotów) are ~20 km south of Centrum. Chopin is on the southern edge of the city, so it's 30-50% closer than Modlin. A Modlin → Wilanów taxi on Wartime is a fixed-quote gamble.
Heavy luggage = avoid Modlin
Modlin Bus is a coach with overhead luggage racks and a luggage hold. 3+ suitcases per traveller force a taxi. A Modlin → Centrum taxi for 4 people with 6 bags is ~150-200 zł. WAW → Centrum for the same load is 50-80 zł in an Uber XL.
Ryanair vs LOT rule
Ryanair serves both WAW and WMI. The Warsaw-Modlin base is for short-haul to Ireland, UK, Italy, Spain. LOT and most flag carriers (LH, AF, KL, BA) only serve Chopin. If your ticket says "Warsaw-Modlin (WMI)" it's the wrong Modlin (a.k.a. Mazowiecki, not the one near Krakow).

FAQ
Is there a third Warsaw airport?
Effectively no, for regular traffic. Radom Airport (RDO) re-opened in 2024 with a 25 km Radom-Warsaw coach (39 zł), but flight volume is tiny — only a handful of Ryanair routes. The "third airport" marketing is misleading. Most travellers face a real WAW vs WMI choice.
How do I avoid the meter-refusal taxi at Modlin?
Book via FreeNow, Uber, Bolt, or a fixed-price portal like Warsaw Chopin Taxi. Avoid the curb line — drivers will quote 200-250 zł to Centrum. If you must hail, agree on a price up front and pay in cash (card refusal at WMI is real).
Can I take the train from Chopin to anywhere?
Yes. Warszawa Lotnisko Chopina station connects via SKM (S2 line) to Centrum in 8 min, Warszawa Centralna, and onward. Last train departs around 23:08 weekdays, slightly later on weekends. The station is under the airport, signed from arrivals.
What if my Ryanair flight is delayed and I land after Modlin closes?
You have a problem. Ryanair does not bus you to WAW. Your options: (1) book a taxi (~200 zł), (2) wait until ~04:30 for the first Modlin Bus, (3) stay overnight at the airport hotel (Hotel Modlin, ~280 zł). If this is a risk, fly into WAW next time.
